Re: For those struggling with IELTS writing (9; 9; 8.5; 8)
LC, Thank you for providing that info. This gives me a better understanding of the system. I believe my grammar was a bottleneck to my writing score. However, I don't think it would have dropped me down under an 8 so I will proceed with the EoR. I am hoping for the best but preparing for the worst h...

Re: Task 2 Writing (Target Band 8+) 3rd
I'm not too sure actually. Here are some of the things I am confidant I did well in: 1) My spelling is usually not an issue unless I accidentally misplace a letter from writing/thinking too fast. If I come across a word I don't know how to spell, I would use a different word instead. 2) I made sure ...

Re: For those struggling with IELTS writing (9; 9; 8.5; 8)
Hey Bas, My best advice is keep calm and study hard. It is very important to practice as much as you can because practice will help you identify your weak spots and act upon it. Mind you, the difference between 7.5 and 8 is rather thin, so you really need to be 100% focused on the examination day t...

Re: Task 2 Writing (Target Band 8+) 3rd
I got my results today and I fell just short of 8 in writing again. My results were 7.5 writing, 9 speaking, 8.5 reading, 9 listening and 8.5 overall. With my past three attempts, I have scored a 9 in the other three sections, but I can't crack an 8 in writing yet haha. After the weekend, I will con...

Congratulations. You must have a strong grasp of English academically if you scored that well with minimal preparation. I hope the migration process goes well for you.

Hi LCHU, Thank you for providing your story and suggestions, I am glad things worked out for you in the end. I believe I am in a similar situation that you were in recently. I have taken the IELTS three times now and am currently awaiting my results for my last one. In each one, I have been aiming f...

Re: Struggling to write detailed background statement
I completely agree with Prams. One reason why I don't like Simons method is I am not convinced having a "balanced argument" will get you a high band score on agree/disagree tasks. It is possible but I think it is harder to justify. I would save those for the discussion essays (discuss the ...

That's understandable, but don't forget that structures are graded in the same category as grammar. The combination of both carry 25% of your total band score.

Re: IELTS Listening Queries
Yes, all test takers listen at the same time.
There is no break between the writing, reading and listening portions of the exam. Most speaking exams should be at a different time but that depends on the institution organizing the exam.

Prams' suggestion is great. Conversely, you could make your first sentence about government spending in general then tie it in with art in the second sentence. Choose whichever method feels more natural for you.

Most of your sentences have the same structure; they start with a phrase followed by a comma. You need to use a variety of different sentence structures to score well so I would mix it up a bit.

Re: IELTS score slightly low
I doubt they would accept you with that 5.5 writing score, I am sure they are very strict about that. You have a few options; you can apply for a regrade on your previous test or you can retake the exam. Applying for a regrade costs money, but it will be refunded if they change your score. I believe...

Re: Essay Task 2 Please assess!!!
Hi Ansh, Your new essay looks very well in my opinion. I like your use of vocabulary and relevant reasoning to support your argument. The main area I think you need some more improvement on is your grammar. I had to reread some of the sentences to understand what you were trying to convey. I also no...
