Hello Nette, welcome to the forum! I hope you do well on your second time taking the test. To find a speaking partner you might try in the Find IELTS Study Partner board in the forum. There are a lot of others looking for speaking partners so I'm sure you'll be able to find someone. Good luck!

Re: What is the worst thing about preparing for the IELTS te

For me, it's hard to gauge my writing - I just don't know if my essays are good enough. Yeah, I can imagine it would be really hard to know what band score your writing is at before taking the test. I think the IELTS does a good job with their band description sheet, but writing will always be a li...

Re: Could do with some advice... speaking test

Glad we could put you a bit more at ease. Props to Ryan for catching the word "evidently" I totally missed that. "Obviously" would work in that context because no one thinks that there are rain forests in Holland. I don't think the examiners mind if you end it a little awkwardly,...

Hello Maria, I'll try to give you a little bit of feed back on your task 2 essay. I rewrote the essay to correct grammar and vocabulary mistakes as well as better focus on the answer to the question. There are more suggestions after the essay. I hope this helps. Travelling is the best way to improve...

Re: Could do with some advice... speaking test

Hello, First of all, I think if this answer is typical of your answers, you have nothing to worry about for the speaking test. There are really only two small corrections I would make. First due to a little L1 (your first language) influence forester and forest sounded a little like fur-est rather t...

Re: please check.I need a 7.0 band score in writing

Hello Mohammed, You asked me to have a look at your writing after having a listen to you speaking. So here goes, first I corrected you grammatical mistakes (there weren't that many) and your vocabulary mistakes (there were a few). I tried to keep the corrected essay as close as possible to your orig...

Re: Please grade.

Hello again Mohammed, I think you would definitely get at least a 7 with this answer. I would probably say it's around a 7 to 7.5. Your fluency and coherence were quite good, no major problems there. You did a great job expanding on the question about your country having nuclear energy even though y...

Hello Mari, Welcome to the forum! I'm sure it is hard to raise two children and prepare for the IELTS. In addition to podcasts, as Ryan mentioned, there are some great YouTube videos out there to help with writing. I think Ryan might be being humble. He has some great videos that specifically focus ...

Re: Hello everyone!

Hi Ryan, Very cool that you got to spend a good amount of time in Shanghai. I've heard it's one of the best cities in China. I've been wanted to go for a while but haven't gotten the chance. As for which is better, Japan or Korea, I would probably say Korea. The people here are a lot more open and i...

Re: Hello everyone!

Thank you for the welcome :) Korea is great. Especially if you like the food. The food can take some time to get used to, but once you do it's quite good and generally healthy. Being an American I very quickly learned to love Korean barbecue ;). Korea can be a little expensive to travel in, but it's...

Re: "To what extent…" questions

Hello, Don't worry, you won't lose points if you only argue for something or only argue against something. It's just a common strategy to mention the points on the other side of an argument so you can disagree with those points. You don't need to follow the strategy though if you don't want to. For ...

Thanks for the resource Ryan, very cool. I love how they use the vocabulary in context. I'll definitely be recommending this to others. The content is great. But I had to laugh a bit, his facial expressions are a little too much. I was cracking up at how he raised one eyebrow every time he introduce...

Re: Writing test, order

Hello, You can do the IELTS Academic Writing Tasks in any order. You can do Task 2 before Task 1 if you prefer. A lot of test takers do Task 2 before Task 1, because Task 2 is worth twice the points. But if you do Task 2 first, I would really recommend you leave at least 20 minutes to do Task 1. Eve...

Re: please asses my speaking.

Hello Mohammed, It is a good idea to prepare for longer than 2 minutes so you won't have trouble filling 1 minute. Just make sure when you take the test you are able to cover all the points before the two minutes is up. I'm not an examiner, but if I had to give you a band score I would probably say ...

Hello everyone!

Hello everyone, my name is Larry. I'm currently teaching English over in Korea. I've been teaching in Korea with my lovely wife for about 7 years now. Hello Saqibali, I'll try to give you some feed back on your speaking. The first and most important thing that I noticed right away, was that your answer sounded memorized. Especially during the beginning. Examiners really don't like memorized answers. So if you answer sounds memorized or sounds unna...

Hi Chi, yep, I'm an English teacher. Currently teaching over in South Korea. Don't worry about your speaking answer, the internet and even the washing machine could be considered recent inventions. Besides, they are mostly looking for your English ability, not necessarily the answer to the question....

Don't worry, if the examiner asked where you are living at the moment, and you told her Melbourne and the suburb, that is a totally correct answer. It's not strange at all even though you are taking the test in Melbourne. ;)

Hope you get the score you are looking for!
