Re: Please assess my Speaking
Overall, close to 7, but held back in a couple of key area. Fluency and coherence is very close to 7. In fact I would likely give 7. You are able to speak for long periods without apparent effort. You might get six though if the examiner thinks your speech was too slow, or that your hesitations and ...

Re: Part2-Talking about one person who loves traveling by plane
This speech would likely get you overall a 6.0 in the IELTS test. You are able to keep talking for long periods, but you don't meet the band 7 criterion of being able to speak without noticeable effort. Your lexical resources also do not show enough idioms or uncommon words to make 7. Your grammar i...

Re: Please kindly asses my speaking - about magazine
Overall, I should think this effort would yield you 6 or 6.5. In terms of fluency, you meet the main criterion of band 7, that is, you are able to keep going and produce long turns with relative ease, and you sow a decent range of connectors and cohesive devices. Lexical resources are adequate, but ...

Re: require critical comments and a possible IELTS score. I am aiming at a band 9 in writing. where do I currently stand
At the moment Chang, this part 2 would likely get you a 6.5 overall, perhaps a seven. Task response is hard. You make many good arguments, but your position is not altogether clear. To make 7, or more, you must present a “clear position throughout the response”. In this case, the band 6 descriptor f...

Re: I need your feedback about the rights of women
This is a poorly worded question. It poses two different issues as sides of the same argument, but they're not. The right of women to choose their profession and the ability of women to perform some tasks are related issues, but not two sides of the same coin. A woman's right to choose is not affect...

Re: Writing task 1 (GT) - need feedback and assessment.
I'd just like to add that the use of bullet points in a letter would be considered "inappropriate format". The examiner band descriptors include a mandatory band penalty for inappropriate format.

Re: Please evaluate my writing task 2 and give valuable comments.
Not a bad effort. I will give you an evaluation based on the band criteria available on the IELTS website. For Task Response, I would like to be able to say that your answer "addresses all parts of the task", but there is one small part of the question that you did not address: that is, th...

Re: Plz assess my writing
As I completed this response I see that David has already responded. I did go into considerably more detail, so I guess I'll go ahead and post anyway. All students are interested in what band they would get, but under the terms of my (and David's) agreement with IDP, as an active examiner, we am not...

Re: question about task 1
Either is OK. In terms of task achievement, for academic writing part one, to get band 7 it is critical to address all the major points made in the charts, tables, maps or illustrations, and to give a "clear overview". Leave out any one major point, and you are restricted to band 4. There ...

Re: IELTS Result Re-evaluation
If there is two bands or more difference between speaking/writing and the other tests there is an automatic reevaluation.
