The graph below shows the quantities of goods transported in the UK between 1974 and 2002 by four different modes of transport.

The line graph demonstrates the quantity of products transported by water, road, rail and pipeline in England between 1974 and 2002. As can be seen, highways remain the most popular method of delivery goods all over these years.
The number of transitioned goods by road has increased dramatically from 70 million tonnes in 1974 to about 98 millions by 2002. Also, pipeline transportation system has been spread significantly and represented a stable surge from nearly 5 million to more than 20 million tonnes of good by 1995 and then plateaued.
The number of cargoes transported by water and railroads initially was at the same level about 40 million tonnes until 1978. Subsequent decades represented by unstable growth of railroads. There has been a trend from 1994 to 1998 when the rates of goods delivered by train was felt fewer than 60 million tonnes. Meanwhile water cargos figures show the fluctuated downward trend until 1995 when it reached a low of approximately 30 million tonnes and rose up to 40 million tonnes again.
Overall, it is apparent that the quantity of transportation of UK goods has grown from 1974 to 2002.
