I took my Academic IELTS Exam last month and I got 8.
Here's the breakdown: L - 9; R- 9; W- 7.5 and S- 7.
I started studying in an IELTS review centre on September 28 until October 26, taking only Saturdays since I work on weekdays in a hospital. After my review programme ended I was pretty much on my own. I couldn't extend my classes since I was short on money and I couldn't pay the extension.
Having English as my first language helped a lot. Basically I grew up in an English-speaking home. I've also enjoyed reading books at an early age which helped develop my reading skills naturally.
It also helped that I was given a free sit in for a practice IELTS exam by my review centre, which helped reduce my stress levels for my actual exam. The best advice I can give however is never ever underestimate the value of practice - LOTS OF IT. As it has always been said, there is no substitute for good practice, especially when you're on your own. The internet has a lot of good sources for practice exams.
Band Score 8 on my First Try
Re: Band Score 8 on my First Try
Hi strawberrydreams,
Thanks very much for sharing your story. Band 8 on your first attempt is very motivating! That review centre must be doing something right.
Congratulations on your success!
