Any child can be taught to become good?

Post by Johnson zhang »

It is generally believed that some people are born with certain talents, for instance for sport or music, and others are not. However, it is sometimes claimed that any child can be taught to become a good sports person or musician. Discuss both these views and give your own opinion

Many people agree that some individuals are born with a specific natural talent. However, others believe that anyone can become successful in their chosen field if they are taught well. In this essay, both views will be discussed before I present my opinion.

The most important reason why some people think geniuses exist is that they believe those very few people are significantly better than others at learning and applying what they just learnt. This theory is backed up by many studies, research and stories reporting only a very small number of people have an extraordinary level of learning response to a particular type of knowledge or skill. As a result, these people tend to benefit from their natural gift, and lead an easier path to success. Hence, many support the belief that natural and remarkable skills can be had via birth. For example, one of the most critically acclaimed Chinese violists Yo Yo Ma was already an expert player at the age of eight.

However, the reason why some others believe education can help anyone to succeed is that education can help grow people’s potential. This belief is based on that realising one’s potential increases the possibility for success and education is the key to this achievement. It is widely believed when education is effective in developing both personal and professional skills, it nurtures and develops the possible potential of people. As a result, it is possible that good training programs can enable anyone to become skilful in an area. For example, the sensational Chinese pianist Lang Lang once struggled with recognition but did eventually became famous during a competition after twelve long years of learning.

In conclusion, both views had valid points. I believe for both those talented and average people, a long term commitment to planed learning will result in success even if it is a marginal one.
Nothing is impossible! Band score 9 is certainly not.
