Hello!

Fluency - Speech is much too slow. There are some unnecessary pauses.

Coherence - A good range of connectives is used and sentences are in a very order.

Vocabulary - Good range of vocabulary. Not many mistakes.

Grammar - Not many mistakes, but I think that you need to use a much wider range of structures.

Pronunciation - Clear. You attempt intonation but the very slow speech means that use of intonation is limited.

Hi David,

Thank you very much for critiquing my recording. I was wondering if you could possibly let me know whether with this approach can I get 7 or higher? or I should employ another strategy for my coming exam held on the 9th of January, 2016.

Could you please do me a favour and analyse my other recording posted in the speaking section of this?

In the end, I just want to say thanks to you for your time allocating for people like me. God bless you and your family.

Best wishes,

Abbas

Hello, abbasazarmehrput!

Thanks for sharing your story about the ping pong competition. It sounded really interesting and like you had a great time, especially visiting your family.

First, I would say that you, in general, have a good command of English. You used transitions well, as David.IELTS.Examiner said. The organization of your speech was good overall.

I could hear that you tried to use some higher-level vocabulary like “eye-catching.” You used these words correctly. I would encourage you to continue to increase your range of vocabulary by studying synonyms for commonly-used words.

Your pronunciation is very clearly enunciated much of the time, but your slower speed of speech makes your speech sound a bit halted. It’s not as natural and conversational as it should be. Particularly, the /th/ sound is still difficult for you. Make sure you put your tongue between your teeth when you say words like “with” and “other.”

Here are some other notes:
I participated in different competitions and contests FOR my life – IN my life
My ping pong competition which held one year ago – which WAS held one year ago
Sponsored by national Iranian gas company – by A national Iranian gas company
Three teams – pronunciation – sounded like TREE
To score as far as I could – as HIGH as I could
With, other, - TH pronunciation
Near to the . . .province – NEAR the. . .province (not “near to”)
I and my colleagues – My colleagues and I
Mem OR a ble – pronunciation – Emphasize first syllable – MEM or a ble.

Best wishes as you continue to practice!
