'less people' is incorrect, right?

Quick question, guys. Is it acceptable, as a promoter of 'Speak Good English', to say 'less people' (instead of 'fewer people')? I'm not a native speaker, and i'm just learning. But I guess you can say "The less people" as well as you can say "The most people".
