Consumers are faced with increasing numbers of advertisements from competing companies. To what extent do you think are consumers influenced by advertisements? What measures can be taken to protect them?

In a globalized world where everyone would like to proclaim themselves as the “Best”, advertisement plays a vital role in reaching to a larger community and considered to be one of the important USP for selling the product. Advertisements offer various choices for the customer which eventually helps them in knowing their competitors.

Nowadays, with the information becoming easily accessible, people ensure that they review the complete product and find out the details and pricing offered by the competitors before they make any purchase. This eases up the process for the customers in their decision-making process. There are few companies which provides platform for various sellers to advertise their product and exhibits in detail features. For e.g. big giants like yahoo and google who generates their income predominantly by showing up the advertisements posted by them. Alternatively there are various ways where companies are using as the platform to showcase their products, for e.g. showing it over the web, billboards etc.

I don’t think customers are being influenced by this; instead the process would miff some of customers if it hasn’t been presented well. Due to the enormous competition in the market, it even confuses the customer to decide upon which product to buy.

There are various measures which one can take collaboratively with government. Some companies use the paper advertisement which adds lot of waste by sticking on the walls and contributes lot of garbage. Government should impose ban on this way of advertising and should encourage product owners to go online advertisement. There should be more of online sites which can consolidate the shows the entire product information rather than spamming individual inbox with various advertisements.
