Please kindly value my task2-International tourism

Post by jennylfm »

In some countries, people believe that international tourism is a bad thing for their country. What are the reason for this ? how to change their views?

International tourism is a commonplace nowadays. Although it brings about not just many benefits such as broadening traveller’s horizon and promoting local economy, but also negative impacts including environmental damage and inconvenience to local people’s life. To combat these problems, strict penalty and promoting public infrastructure will be discussed.

To begin with, one key reason why international tourism is believed by some to be harmful is the environmental damage due to it. In order to better cater for international tourists, numerous trees are cutted down to establish hotels, restaurants, airports and other facilities. There is no doubt that this will pose a serious threat on local environment. Furthermore, many irresponsible behaviours from the travellers such as throwing rubbish randomly, cutting their name on historical buildings accelerate this situation. Therefore, it is understandable why some feel satisfying and argue that it is detrimental to their country.

The other main reason is the inconvenience brought about by it. Take Shanghai for example. On 2010 Expo, the local public transportation system failed to burden the stress of large-scale international tourism and collapsed for several times, which affected the local people’s life seriously, especially on workday. Countless people were not able to arrive their workplace timely because of terrible traffic jam, which had huge influences on their life. Moreover, during this period, many restaurants were full of foreign travellers, local residents had to wait for long queue to eat, which wasted much their invaluable time.

To address these problems, clearly actions are needed to be taken. One effective method to make strict regulations to punish the behaviours of damaging environment. By doing so, it can make people more reliable for their damage and thus less likely to conduct it in their later life. At the same time, the money can be used to conserve the environment. The other means is to enhance the local public infrastructure which include improving transportation by increasing more bus stations and building up more subway, which is not only beneficial to facilitate local resident's life, but also to promote the development of the local community as a whole. Consequently, people’s attitude about international tourism will be changed.

In conclusion, environmental damage and inconvenience are the two main reasons why some believe that international tourism is detrimental to their countries. As to alter people’s viewport of this, strict penalty and improvement on local public transportation are the effective approaches. It is hoped that these strategies can be adopted shortly.

Hello Jenny!

Basically, quite good, but I don't think that you have managed to distinguish well between the effects of INTERNATIONAL tourism and DOMESTIC tourism.

Anyway, good grammar - nice range of structures, no problems with understanding - and very good vocabulary.

All the best,
David
