Please review writing task 2 - Houses vs Apartments

Post by ieltslearner »

Some people prefer to live in a house, while others think that there are more advantages living in an apartment.
Are there more advantages than disadvantages to living in a house rather than in an apartment?

Opinion is divided whether living in a house compared to an apartment is more beneficial. I am of the view that living in a landed house has far more advantages than living in a flat. Allow me to explain why.

Those who live in apartments prefer some features such as windy high floors with cross ventilation. They enjoy the natural view as well, especially if the apartment is surrounded by exorbitant scenic landscapes and they occupy the higher levels. However, these reasons although attractive in the short term, do not hold up to the advantages of living in houses.

One of the major advantages of home dwelling is the extra space available. Evidently, houses have extended area to accommodate gardens and backyards. As a result, people can grow their own fruit and vegetables in their mini gardens. Additionally, compared to flats, houses come with garages with private parking. For example, the residents of government flats in Singapore have to park their vehicles in the public car park allocated for their community, which is not always as convenient as private parking.

Another beneficial factor is if the house comes with an open rooftop. This type of design is especially evident in homes in the Indian subcontinent. This is extremely beneficial in the intensive cold of the winter. Families utilize the rooftops to soak the heat of the sun in the daytime. Besides this, children have their own play area for games such as cricket and soccer.

In conclusion, although people might chose to live in apartments, in my opinion the advantages of living in landed houses outweigh the benefit of flat occupancy. Individuals and families seeking accommodation need to consider personal preference as well if they are to choose between the two.

Hello!

A landed house?

Exorbitant landscapes?

Apartment blocks often have underground garages.

Cricket on a rooftop?

Overall, you make some good points and grammar is good. However, some points are unclear or insufficiently developed and sometimes vocabulary is 'strange'.

All the best,
David
