Some people think that cities are the best places to live

Post by Dr.Khurram »

Some people think that cities are the best places to live. Others prefer to live in a rural area. Compare the advantages and disadvantages of living in the city to living in the country side.
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your experience.

In the last few decades there is significant urban sprawl around many metropolitan cities and more and more people are giving up rural life style and moving to cities. Many commentators believe that big cities offer better lifestyle as compared to rural areas, while other defends the idea that living in rural areas has more advantages as compared to cities. I strongly believe that cities offer better living conditions in terms of better healthcare facilities, better education and higher standard of living.
Firstly, it is indisputable fact that cities offer better facilities, which are seldom available in small towns, villages and other rural areas, for instance, in cities there are better healthcare facilities such as tertiary care hospitals, who provide necessary treatment modalities. Moreover, most cities offer better education opportunities and there are multi -disciplinary teaching institutions in the form of universities. Furthermore, life in cities offer much more than this in the form of upmarket shops, fashionable boutiques and pavement caffe. However, despite all these facilities, there are few pitfalls of living in these multi -cultural centers, one example often sited is that in cities due to ever-increasing population there is problem of traffic congestion, other than this pollution is another major problem. So, these are few challenges of living in urban areas.
Life in rural areas is more easy going. Population is not big as compared to cities, so problem of traffic congestion is neglible and it is easy to go around. Furthermore housing is more affordable and almost everyone can afford their own house. There is easily availability of fresh food such as fresh vegetable, fruits and milk, unlike cities, where many people consumed preserved food. However, there are many problems which people have to face in small towns and other rural areas, such as, there scarcity of health facilities and educational opportunities.
To conclude, I strongly agree with the notion that life in cities has more advantages as compared to life in rural areas.

Hello!

Overall, this is a good essay. Just a couple of points ...

1. The reference to 'multicultural' in the first main paragraph may need elaboration

2. There is quite a big difference in length between the first and second main paragraphs. This suggests that the second paragraph is not so well developed. You might need to make it clear whether you are talking about rural areas in (for example) Australia or India.

3. The conclusion should be more developed. It's not really enough to say that both sides have their positives/negatives. You really need to say which you think is/are (a) particularly strong point(s).

Lovely grammar and vocabulary!

Well done,
David
