The table provides information regarding to the underground railway systems in six cities.
The oldest underground railway system is in London that opened in 1863. And the 20th century witnessed four cities opening their systems with Paris in 1990, Tokyo in 1927, Washington DC in 1976 and Kyoto in 1981 respectively, which is followed by Los Angeles, also the newest city, opening in 2001.
As for the length of the routes, London is the longest 394 kilometers which is almost twice than Paris (199km). The third longest is Tokyo (155km) which is ahead of Washington DC (126km). On the other hand, the underground railway system in Kyoto and Los Angeles are relatively short, 11km and 28km respectively.
Though the longest routes London has, it doesn’t boast the largest number of passengers per year. (775millions). It’s Tokyo that has the most passengers, almost 5 times size than that in Kyoto, which has the least populations in the underground railway systems.
As discussed above, the conditions of underground railway systems in three aspects turn out to all be different in 6 various cities.
