How to expand vocabulary?

Hello examiners!
During practicing ielts i always struggle with shortage of appropriate words. My written samples doesn't flow as fluent as in my mind. Moreover, remembering new words is a hurdle that never seems to surrender. On top of all of that, what strategies or books that can augment my lexicon woul you recommend?

1. Label everything in your home in English
2. Use flashcards. You can easily keep them in your pocket and spend those free few moments to learn them
