Question: The only way to reduce the amount of traffic in cities today is by reducing the need for people t travel from home for work, education or shopping.
To what extent do you agree or disagree.
My Response
Movement from one place to another is an integral part of human behaviour and existence, with industrial development in majority of countries the need to move has increased, leading to significant traffic problems in these cities. Therefore, it could be argued that cutting down the demands on individuals to travel for work, school or to the malls is the only solution to this problem. However, there are other proven leeways or avenues to solving this challenge, these will be discussed in this essay.
Firstly, the public transport systems of these cities should be restructured and where need be improved upon to reduced the number of vehicles on the roads. For instance, in Asia, particularly New Delhi in India a city with serious traffic bottleneck, the district councils in collaboration with some private businessmen decided to redesign the cities transport network by constructing more routes, buying modern coaches and buses with comfortable seats. They also embarked on training of drivers and constructions of ticketing outlets. With all these in place her citizens now prefer to travel with these buses rather than driving there cars, evidently the traffic challenge previously experienced has significantly reduced. Emulating this programm will solve these problem in other cities of the world.
Furthermore, exploring other means of transportation such as water and railway systems, might be very helpful in no small way. For example, most coastal cities in Europe, of note is Venice in Italy and Monaco in France have well structured ferries with drop off points connected to a speed train terminus thus, reducing the number people on the highway. This is why these cities never experience traffic problem.
in conclusion, after analyzing the above points, it has been proven that there are other options available for addressing this problem. if these are implemented along with educating individuals on the options of on-line shopping and on-line educational degrees by colleges who offer such courses, traffic congestion in our cities will definitely be a thing of the past.
