The best way for government to solve the problem of traffic congestion in cities is to provide free public transport 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?

Increasing usage of personal vehicles for daily routine work has contributed to problematic traffic congestion.Some people argues that a free public transportation can discourage usage of personal vehicles and thus it can reduce traffic congestion on roads.It is argued that government should enhance comfort level of public transportation as well as government should extend the system to each and every remote part of cities. Enhanced comfort and better access of towns of city will encourage people use public transportation and thus this will reduce traffic congestion.Both points are being discussed in details below.

Comfort in personal vehicle is one of the most important decisive factor that force people use their personal transport.This trend in turn enhances traffic congestion on roads.If government equip public transportation with all latest facilities like air conditioning, comfort seats and peaceful environment, travelers will definitely choose public transportation for economic reasons.As per latest statistics published by The Transportation Figure says that even with equal comfort facilities, public transportation costs ten times less than personal transportation.With such a high difference of costs, no one would like to opt for his personal vehicle further.Thus, it is clear that by enhancing comfort level in public transportation, we can discourage usage of personal vehicles and this reduce traffic congestion on roads.

Accessibility of all remote areas of cities in second main factor that forces people to prefer personal transportation.This factor in turn enhances traffic blockage on roads.If government make all remote parts of cities accessible via public transportation, passengers will definitely choose public transportation because they can reach their destinations with any trouble.As per a latest statistical report published by The New York Times, cities with best access of their town through transportation has least usage of personal vehicles.With freedom to reach any part of city with public transportation, no one would like to opt for personal transportation further.This it is clear that by making all parts of towns accessible through public transportation, government can discourage usage of personal vehicles and this reduce traffic congestion on roads.
