Few queries on some questions encountered in Listening test

Post by verisimilitude »

Hello All,

I'm a newbie and just started preparing for the IELTS. I am using Barrons for my preparation. I had a few queries to the expected answers to the listening/reading section questions in the IELTS marked "No More than THREE Words".

Below are sentences taken from sample listening practice tasks

1. Which one is correct amongst the below
a. An animal living near the Arctic has special adaptions for the cold climate
b. The animal living near the Arctic has special adaptions for the cold climate
Since "has" is used, this should be "An animal" but it doesn't sound correct to me.

2. Which one is correct amongst the below
a. Fruit cost more in the winter than in the summer.
b. Fruit s cost more in the winter than in the summer.
Again this sentence sounds syntactically erroneous. The "Fruit" word should have been in the plural form since it is a generalized statement.

3. I listened to a conversation which was between a prospective tenant for an apartment and a receptionist filling his tenant form. In that she mentions the various features that they will provide like study, balcony, garage parking space, fireplace, exercise club and washing machine. Now in the conversation, the tenant declines some features and accepts some. So for an answer to the question, "What features will the tenant get with his apartment" which features should we tick?

4. Some questions require us to answer in numbers like "two clothes", "50 percent". So if I mention in the answer "2 clothes" in place of the former and "50 %" or "fifty %" or "fifty percent" will I be marked incorrect?

Please guide me about the same.
Thanks for reading this post and answering.
