Overall, it is seen that over-grazing was the major cause of land degradation by which Oceania was affected the most. However, maximum land degradation was observed in Europe.
During the 1990s, over-grazing was the prime factor at 35% for deteriorating land. This was followed by deforestation and over-cultivation at 30% and 28% respectively. Also, other minimal causes contributed 7% to land damage.
In Europe, 9.8% of damage to land was caused by cutting trees and 7.7% due to over-cultivation. Hence making it the most degraded land. The second most was Oceania, with over-grazing at 11.3% as the major concern. Also, here over-cultivation played no part in harming land.
