Consumers are faced with increasing numbers of advertisements from competing companies. To what extent do you think are consumers influenced by advertisements? What measures can be taken to protect them?

In today’s modern world, companies have multiplied their advertising resources, enticing the general population into purchasing their products. In my opinion, they have been moderately successful in their endeavors and several means can be put in place to safeguard the masses from being induced into unnecessary purchase.

Some among the general public, especially the youth are influenced into buying products which are well advertised. The vulnerable young mind is attracted by glamour and brand name. For example, teenagers will purchase sports apparel worn by their favorite football stars, however expensive the cost may be. Conversely however, some individuals prefer personal choice over advertised goods. They prefer items that suit them better, for example, clothing which has better design or looks, regardless of brand title. Hence, it is fair to say that advertisement agencies do not have a complete stronghold on the consumer community.

There are several measures however, that can be put in place to shield young consumers from advertising. Firstly, parents can instill a sense of appreciation for money and the effort required earning it. For instance, teens requesting finances from their parents to purchase valuable branded items should be asked to work part time to understand the value of money. Additionally, since much of advertising these days appears on cell phones or notebooks in the form of pop up applications, anti-malware applications can be installed to remove unwanted screen pops. This way, the relevant people will have less exposure to advertisements.

In conclusion, although commercial companies continue to promote specific brands, mostly the younger population tends to be attracted by their products. Even then, there are some approaches to control this trend such as parental guidance and anti-advertisement software.

Hello!

Overall, a very good essay. I think the points could be better developed, but grammar and vocabulary are fine and organisation is generally clear.

Well done!
