some people believe that crime rate can be reduced by giving a long punishment, while others say there are alternate ways to reduce crime. Discuss both views and give your opinion.

It is often argued that long term punishment can serve as deterrent to misdemeanors. While this is true I believe that high penalty charges as well death sentences can also serve as alternatives for crime reduction

It is not uncommon for many law firm these days to hand in long jail terms to people who break the law. People argue that this type of punishment will not go a long way in instilling fear among law breakers. The reasons they gave include that long term punishment comes with some kind of lenient measures while in prison. For example the prisoner is taught about skill acquisition while he is serving his punishment so as to improve his life after his years in prison. While this comes with its positive, the main argument is that the offender is not scared at all and also tries to persevere and complete his term and even come out with a new skill that benefits him. A trend most criminals are getting used to.

Opponents of long punishment are advocating for death sentence as well as high surcharge rates as other options for handling crime. They argue that capital punishment will embed fear into people who want to commit offence as they are made to think twice before embarking on it. For an instance, in Saudi Arabia where most of the punishment is death sentence, crime rate is so minimal as people think of the consequences of any action they want to embark on. Also this measure have worked in Nigeria, where death sentence was signed into bill three years ago as a punishment for kidnapping. The rate of the mentioned crime has since dropped to negligible values compared to the when it was at the peak in 2012.Also because of how the society values money and with the increased level of hardship, upping the surety fee for offenders will also help in reducing crime rate. Imagine putting the bail out for stealing a car to around 15000usd,an amount which most individuals cannot afford. This is believed will control the rate of crime indulgence among people

All in all, while serving long term punishment can act as deterrent for wrongdoers, other measures like death sentence as well as high bond are alternative options to crime control

Hello!

Be careful! A misdemeanour is a minor criminal offence. Giving the death penalty for this would be on an ISIS level.

Law firms absolutely do not hand out sentences for criminals!!!! Given that most of them defend criminals, this would an open invitation to crime!!!

The use of Saudi Arabia as an example is not useful. In Saudi Arabia, many crimes go unreported (e.g. rape victims are usually considered guilty under Saudi law, rather than the rapist) and other crimes are dealt with informally. Often, the religious police hand out punishments without due legal process.

A quick internet search demonstrates that the death penalty has had little or no effect on kidnapping in Nigeria, so that example fails too.

Grammar is good, but there is not much range of structures.

Vocabbulary appears, on the one hand, quite good, but since it is not used correctly to create a credible argument, the score for this criteria would not be high.

All the best,
David
