Some people claim that not enough of the waste from homes is recycled. They say that the only way to increase recycling is for governments to make it a legal requirement

To what extent do you think laws are needed to make people recycle more of their waste?

As the environment becomes more of a pressing issue, recycling has become a topic of high importance. Many people believe that not enough is being done about waste recycling and that the government needs to implement some kind of rule to enforce more recycling of products. To a certain extent I agree with this point, however, I do not believe that it should be a strict law, as I believe it can cause more opposition than acceptance.

I do not believe that the government should penalize somebody for not recycling; rather I believe a points system could be used for those who do correctly sort their waste. For example, in Sweden many people buy bottled water and to encourage consumers to recycle the plastic bottles after usage, each person receives 1KR for each bottle they correctly sort into a machine near their homes. This not only benefits the environment in terms that the bottle can be re-used, but it also benefits the person as they receive some money for doing their part in society.

I also believe that, rather than enforcing a law on the citizens, the government instead should have recycling stations nearby each apartment complex or house as this may encourage disposal of waste. If only general waste station is near to a house, rather than several specific waste stations, then the persons of the community may not have the time or energy to recycle correctly.

In conclusion, I believe the government needs to invest money in more waste stations and enforce a point system, which will benefit the citizens of society and encourage people to take better care of our environment.

Hello!

This is a very good essay. There is a very good range of vocabulary and grammar, generally used correctly. Mistakes do not interfere with meaning. I would have liked to have seen a shorter introduction and slightly longer main paragraphs.

Well done!
