PRISON IS THE BEST PUNISHMENT FOR CRIMINALS. DISCUSS
Punishment has always been accepted by many societies as the only way for a criminal to repay for his/her crime. Across the civilisations, there have been a variety of methods in which a criminal was punished. Some believe that, prison is the best punishment for criminals and some refute this. These points of view will be discussed in this order.
It is believed by some that imprisonment for a certain period of time proportional to the crime, is the best punishment. An idea that supports this point of view is that, the criminal realises the harm committed to the victim and the pain that the victim had to suffer. It can be argued that this practice will remain in the future. Thus, it is clear why some people gravitate towards this point of view.
On the other hand, many argue that prison should not be the best punishment for all the criminals. For example, criminals who have committed reasonably small crime should be assigned a different type of punishment or task such as social service. Thus, these criminals should not be allowed to share an institute with those who have committed a very bad crime because, this will act in a destructive way and destroy the purpose of the punishment. After analysing thee facts, it is very clear why many support this claim.
For reasons related to the type of crime and the prison environment, the issue of prison assessed as the best punishment for criminals is supported and refuted by many. However, after analysing the above point of views, it is clear that the crime and the respective criminal are to be scrutinised very carefully before assigning the punishment. Thus the argument that, prison is the best punishment for many criminal cannot be supported and is expected to never be realised.
