120804 People prefer to go shopping in the supermarket rather than small shops and local markets. Why has this happened? Do you think it is a positive or negative development?

Nowadays, supermarkets have gain a great popularity all over the world and many people prefer shopping in supermarket rather than local shops. There are several causes behind this trend and I believe it is a positive move.

To begin with, supermarkets make shopping more convenient and enjoyable. In comparison with small local shops, supermarkets provide shoppers with far wider range of products like, for example, food, clothes, everyday objects, electric appliances. This could be a big time-saver for busy modern shoppers because they could buy almost everything they need at one place. Furthermore, many supermarkets provide free car parking, home deliveries and even internet shopping, all of which can make people’s shopping experience more pleasant.

In addition, cheaper price is another advantage of supermarkets. Big supermarkets sell a huge quantity of goods on a daily basis. This means that they still can make reasonable profit with lower price on each single item they sale. Also, the large volume of sales makes supermarkets in better position to negotiate with their suppliers to get a lower price. All these factors make their goods cheaper and this is probably the most import incentive for shoppers to choose them.

Furthermore, Supermarkets work only with suppliers who can provide good quality products in large quantities. Because supermarkets can only sell things that customers want, they listen very carefully to customers views and they know that the only way to keep the loyalty of their customer is to provide high quality goods. From this we can see that the quality of products in supermarkets is more trustworthy than small shops.

To conclude, since supermarkets provide shoppers with cheap, high quality products and also make shopping more convenient, I believe the prevalence of supermarkets is a positive development.

This is really well written. Great reasons for the trend and a clear statement of your own opinion. Well done!
