The best way to reduce traffic is to pay road toll to drive on busy roads.
To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Type: Balanced approach

It is often believed that the most effective way to ease traffic is to collect tolls on congested roads. In my opinion, I think forcing people to pay tolls is one possible solution. However, there are other better ways to solve the problem of traffic.

One way to limit the number of vehicles on roads is to pay a toll. In other words, charging people a certain amount, which deducts automatically through smart cards, for using the busy roads, at peak hours, forces them to choose alternate roads to avoid tolls. Furthermore, people will find other ways to travel, such as public transport, carpooling to avoid another kind of tax. Consequently, the load of traffic on main roads will be reduced.

The second approach to ease the traffic congestion is to expand public transit capacity. Greater investment in public transport would keep more cars off the roads. People will prefer to travel by public transport when they find it cheaper and convenient service. Moreover, many commuters will likely choose this mode of transport. As a result, there would be less amount of traffic on roads.

Finally, increasing road capacity allows the vehicles to flow more smoothly. Widening the existing roads will adjust all the drivers who want to travel at peak times. For example, adding extra lanes on a narrow road will aid mobility. This will really help in increasing the traffic flow because more cars could pass freely and in saving people time also.

In conclusion, only road tolls would not solve the problem but enhancing the capacity of public transit and roads would notably reduce the traffic congestion.
