The chart depicts data about the variation in average house prices in five metropolitans between 1990 and 2002 as opposed to those in 1989. The chart has been split into two portions. One portion presents the figures between 1990 to 1995 while the other one relays information from the year 1996-2002. During the first hald, average house prices declined considerably in New York, Tokyo, and London while those in Madrid and Frankfurt experienced a mild progression. The second half of the chart favoured a growth in prices in four cities with Tokyo being the lone city having a downfall in the house prices.
Over the 5 years between 1990 and 1995, New York, Tokyo, and London saw a decrease in house prices as compared to those in 1989 with the average downfall in percentage of the former being 5% while the later two had a decline of 15% each. Madrid and Frankfurt were the two cities where prices progressed mildly by 2% and 3% respectively.
The period between 1996 and 2002 was that of remarkable growth in the majority of cities.London was the most expensive city where prices soared by 12% as compared to those of 1989 followed by New York, Mardrid, and Frankfurt. Tokyo being the only city where prices fell, saw a downfall of 5%.
