(People spend large amounts of time and money on clothes, hairstyles and make up to change their appearance.
Is it important for people to be concerned about the way they look?
What are the consequences of focussing on physical appearance?)
It is often believed that people spend significant amounts of time and money to uplift their physical appearance. It is healthy and influential to look good, however, there are some negative consequences of being overly fashion-conscious.
To be concerned about the physical appearance is valuable for a person as it can help them boost their confidence and self-esteem which are really helpful in both work and life. For example, a majority of employers prefer those applicants who are well-dressed and confident in job interviews. In addition, it is the requirement of some jobs that you keep yourself well-maintained and good-looking and maintain a proper hygiene all the time because you have to meet public clients where external appearance does matter a lot.
On the other hand, some people are too much concerned about their physical beauty that they spend a fortune on designer-wear clothes and beauty products to enhance their physical appearance. For instance, some women often go for a plastic surgery to look attractive which can sometimes harm them, while some men take certain drugs to help them build a large, muscular body.
Another downside of too much spending in uplifting looks is to create social differences which possibly divide people into several social classes causing various issues in society. To illustrate, a large number of people from lower class will try to look and wear according to their surrounding and society that will probably create a financial strain on them. Thus, physical appearance should only be one small part of a person.
In conclusion, physical appearance plays an important role in a person’s personality. However, some people can become overly concerned which can lead them to ignore other aspects of their lives.
