Successful sports professionals can earn a great deal more money than people in other important professions. Some people think this fully justified while others think it is unfair.
Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.
Sportsmen and sportswomen, both, generally earn lot of money as compared to other professionals. People has different opinions about this, some favours this whilst others have arguments against it. Both opinions are justified by strong logics and will be explained in the following paragraphs.
Professionals, other than sports, have diversified list and all can not be given the same significance. Although no profession is bad, but some professions such education or research has to be given particular attention. Generally researchers and academicians have low salaries but the work or research output they generate have far reaching effects. One can't neglect scientists and give them low salaries compared to sports professionals. the finding of research scientists can have commercial value and governments or private companies generate lot of revenue from those scientific outputs. Therefore, research scientists either in public sector or private sector should be encouraged by giving reasonable salaries and other incentives.
Sports professionals earn lot of money but it is not true for every sports and within that sports, not every player is not that famous to earn high salary or money. For example in cricket, there are 11 players who play in a given match but very few perform well and lead the team to win. If some player perform consistently and guide the team to win more and crucial match (e.g., world cup) then he/she becomes hero and celebrity. He not only gets fame but also get many advertisements from commercial companies and ultimately generates lot of money. Therefore, it is quite justified if some exceptional player or sportsman or sportswoman gets or generate lot of money.
In conclusion, a generalized comparison between sports professionals and other professions is not worthwhile to reach or develop an opinion. More sophisticated and in depth analysis of particular sportsman or sportswoman with a particular other professionals is mandatory. A common player can not be compared to a school/university teacher or a research scientist. Similarly, a well known and famous sports player can not be compared to a well known and established scientist. Therefore, I personally believe that a legendary player has right to earn more money than a general or ordinary professional.
