The idea of going overseas for university study is an exciting prospect for many people. But while it may offer some advantages, it is probably better to stay home because of the difficulties a student inevitably encounters living and studying in a different culture.
To what extent do you agree or disagree this statement? Give reasons for your answer.
It is certainly true that thousands of students in every year are going overseas to study for their qualifications. The escalation of this trend in recent years highlighted concerns about difficulties students commonly encounter. However, I strongly disagree with the statement that students should give up their precious opportunities because of their difficulties.
The first aspect which needs to be considered is that the major obstacle which students commonly face is language problems. For instance, some students who prefer staying in their home claim that additional languages are unnecessary when they are not required to speak different languages in their own countries. This is true however, living in overseas by using different languages allow individuals to boost their language skills. Even in their own country, job prospects will increase since many companies today hire people who can speak multiple languages for their businesses. Therefore, studying overseas does not only train their skills to command another languages, it also expands their career opportunities.
Another imperative factor to be examined is the risk of being unsuccessful in their study. This is one of the most common issues that international students face while pursuing education overseas. This is mostly because students are unfamiliar with different academic requirements such as writing essays, compared to their home country. That said, these difficulties offer great chances for students to grow their networks and friendships by seeking assistance for their assignments, which is a transferable skill for their future careers.
Although there are various obstacles with studying abroad today, these difficulties are precious opportunities for them to obtain their transferable skills for their career. Thus, students should study overseas regardless of their difficulties.
