Creative artists should always be given the freedom to express their own ideas (in words, pictures, music or film) in whichever way they wish. There should be no government interference on what they do.

To what extent do you agree or disagree with this opinion?

Answer:

Creativity is the soul of all art. And in regards to enhancing it, artists are considered to have the freedom to express their ideas in whichever way they wish without government interference. However, in my opinion, art also serves the community and at the same time be accountable to that community and its benefactors.

It is not common for everyone to have the same level of creativity. Some individuals can only learn from others ideas and are unable to create things. Just a few have the ability to think differently and bring new ideas to life, especially, in the field of art. Thus, most people think that there should be an encouragement for artists to represent their ideas freely.

However, in some circumstances, new ideas might breach the codes of ethic or be politically sensitive. These make societies not willing to accept them. For instances, in painters’ eyes, the painting of a naked woman is seen as the beauty of purity, while ordinary people consider it as a sexual reference. Regarding to this, the government need to enact certain regulations to restrict the age of audience and to prevent inappropriate ideas from being published.

In conclusion, I agree that specific restrictions should be enforced on publishing art. In other words, artists need to understand the principle of art to the community, so they can direct their creation in a positive way. Yet, rules should not be overwhelming and must be interpreted clearly. A board of consultants is required in order to assess art products before they are launched to the public.
