Culture nowadays is similar all over the world than it used to be in the past.
What are the reasons for this?
Is this positive or negative?
In the early days, people usually differentiated in the name of cultures. Over the last decade, the culture in different parts of the world looks similar which gives rise to a phenomenon called global culture. This is because people are getting good exposure towards others in every sphere of the world. This trend has both positive and negative effects.
On the one hand, the main benefit of a single world culture is the eradication of racism in the society. This means that if there is a similar way of lifestyle, then there will be a less chance of discrimination. For example, if a British tourist comes to India, he/she cannot be discriminated for their behaviours because people in India are already exposed to such behaviours and treat him/her as a normal person. From this it is clear that a single culture reduces discrimination, and thus beneficial to the community.
On the other hand, the substantial drawback of such a trend is the loss of cultural identity. This is because people in different countries are known for their language, food, manners and behaviours. For instance, Aborigines in Australia are identified with their different dialects and food habits, and because of a single culture, there is a loss of such dialects and habits. Now it is understandable that having a global culture acts as a catalyst for destroying the different cultures on this earth.
From this essay, it can be concluded that the exposure of people acts as a precursor for producing a similar culture the world over. Such a single culture avoids discrimination among humans, but destroys many customs and traditions. In my opinion, this trend has more benefits because living without discrimination is the need of the day.
