Topic:
Some people think that universities should provide graduates with the knowledge and skills needed in workplace. Others believe that the true function of universities should be to give access to knowledge for its own sake, regardless of whether the course is useful to an employer.
What, in your opinion, should be the main function of a university?

Traditionally, students attend universities in order to improve their knowledge, and also, get prepared to the job market. It is believed that the education provided in universities should be emphasized in the preparation of students to attend the jobs available in nowadays market. This will be proven by analysing the importance that companies gives to under-graduating students, likewise, the damage that useless education can cause into the internal economy.

Firstly, the lack of expert professionals in the workplace is an international issue. The first action to tackle this problem would be preparing the university students to supply those positions, providing them knowledge and skills needed in the workplace. Many companies are already aware of this approach. For example, IBM and HP, provides every year, events in several universities to train and hire students as trainees. Thus, there is an obvious link between the professional education in colleges with the lack of professionals in the market.

Moreover, education in universities must be very specific and accurate. If useless or outdated information are given to students it will severally damage the economy, increasing significantly the numbers of unskilled professional in the market. A fact that support this idea is the current focus of many universities nowadays, since their aim is not the professional career, many graduated professionals don't have the necessary skills to supply the market positions, hence, companies are forced to hire employees overseas, damaging the local economy.

After analysing the areas, it remains clear that universities, should emphasize the learning of skills and knowledge to adapt in the current workplace necessities, in order to reduce the amount of unskilled professionals.
