REQUIRMENT: Increasing the price of petrol is the best way to solve growing traffic and pollution problems. To what extent do you agree or disagree? What other measure do you think might be effective? Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience. Write at least 250 words

It is no doubt that traffic growing and pollution caused by vehicles are huge problems in urban area. Many cities try to solve these problems via limiting the amount of cars and increasing the price of petrol. Are these controls effective as they expected? The answer is negative, definitely. Because we still breathe the polluted air, bothered by traffic jams, and find parking everywhere.

Cars are no longer luxuries to common people, which means cars are not only a vehicle but also a life style, and have become a necessity of modern people. Would people drop driving just because of the high price of petrol? I don’t think so. They still driving when they want to gain more conveniences. The only benefit of high petrol price is an advancing income of government. On contrary, the public have to spend more money on daily expenses, and increasing their economic burden.

The restriction of single-double plate numbers is another ineffective control method. Because some people may buy another car for an alternation. This situation stimulates the increasing of car population contrarily, and the vehicle pollution is deteriorating.

I think the best approach to solve these problems is public transportation construction. The more conveniences of public transit, the less times of people would driving. Besides, government should figure out essential problems instead of apparent ones, and make regulations more scientific and more reasonable.
