Disadvantges and advantages of marketing imported foodstuffs

Living in a modern consumer society, large department stores enjoy wide popularity among countries and bring into a land products from abroad.The issue is wether or not governments should deal with this problem by toughening sanctions against importers to market foodtuffs. The arguments on both sides of this debate need to be examined carefully.

Firstly, transnational companies in food indutstry are not concerned about the health benefits of perishables, tranported from one country to another. In order to preserve fruits, vegetables, meat and milky products in top condition the corporations stuck chemicals into them and transport unripe grocerieswhich bring to consequences of food poisoning or aggravation. Moreover, it is known from biology green groceries do not contain as much vitamins and minerals as ripe ones. Consequently people don’t get use from consuming such foodstuffs. Some might argue that these products are not harmful to human’s health. However, in my opinion governments should take over control supply in the supermarkets.

It could also be argued that strong economy depend on market relations of a country. So, if a government needs to develop national food indutry it is needed to assist its own producers to trade in the market. It is important to apply protectionism for a spell, for example, increasing import tarrifs for food.

On the other hand, tastes differ and in order to maintain the demand for foodstuff that cannot be grown in one country’s territory a state has to open it’s borders.

In concluion, despite there being circumstances when providing stores with staple foods from abroad may be justified, it is my belief that promoting in-house farmers is more productive in long term.
