Hi All,

I just came to know about my IELTS score. This time my inner most feelings, and senses are feeling differently. In one way I feel happy that I crawled up in speaking module score by .5 i.e. I scored 7 in speaking. However, looking at listening module my score scaled down by .5 comparing to my previous attempt. Talking about the Reading and writing there is no decrease or increase in the scores they remain stable at 6  . On a whole my second attempt IELTS scores in each module are:
IELTS 1: September 21: L 8, R 6, W 6, S 6.5 = 6.5
IELTS 2: November 21: L 7.5, R 6, W 6, S 7 = 6.5
Looking at positive side, I was able to manage my scores at same level. There was no drastic change in them. On the other side there is no improvement in reading and writing modules.

So time to stand again on toes and get prepared for next IELTS combat.

Hi NPR,

Don't get disheartened. Except in writing your scores in remaining 3 modules are very very great and marvelous. I cannot suggest you anything at this moment. Since I am also with you on the same side; baffled by looking at IELTS score card.

Regards,
Bunni

Here are some techniques I follow:

For reading:

for fill the gaps & T/F/NG type question.

1) First and the foremost thing, do not try to understand what is written in the passage. When you try to do it, your speed will go down.
2) Skim the passage quickly, do not take more than 1 -2 min for skimming. (For skimming, i just take a pencil and scroll the text. it helps me in concentrating better)
3) while skimming keep your eye open for anything interesting, Underline keywords, dates, Names, places, etc anything you think could be a probable question/answer.
4) Identify the keywords in question and only read sentence in passage where the keyword is underlined. Usually you will find the answer, if not read a line above and below the underlined part

for match the headings questions.

1) Skim the headings (Optional)
2) Read first two sentence of paragraph and find the suitable heading (Most often answers will be in first two sentences)
3) if you do not find it, read complete paragraph and match the answer.
4) very important, concentrate on single paragraph at a time

Most common mistake is getting struck at a question. If you do not find answer in less than one minute move on to next question and revisit it afterwards. Do not waste time on single question.

By following these techniques I could complete my reading test in 40 Minutes.

For listening:

- Concentration is the key here. do not think about anything else during the listening test. If you miss a question it will be very difficult to be on track for that entire audio series.
- if you miss answering a question forget about it and move to next question.
- Very important, use the time before the audio starts to read the instructions and questions quickly.
- Underline keywords in questions.
- Read carefully the instructions on how many words you can write as answer
- After writing the answer i read the entire sentence to check if it is grammatically correct.
