Answer:
Some people believe that it is important for immigrants to follow the culture of the host country. However, I accept the idea that they should create their own community.
On the one hand, there are some benefits of blending into with the indigenous culture. Firstly, each country have different practice and custom, observing and being accustomed to new lifestyle are helpful for immigrants to interact and communicate with the locals. For example, In Japanese working places, when passing other people, staff have to give a bow that shows mutual respect. Secondly, having way of life like the locals helps immigrants achieve a sense of comfort and confidence and avoid embarrassment. For instance, in the western world, giving somebody a kiss , which is prohibited in some regions, represents welcome and friendship.
On the other hand, establishing a minority community also is positive in some way. The first advantage is that immigrant may keep their own cultural identity existing when living in another country. For example, Vietnamese community in certain parts of the United States always celebrate the traditional events such as Tet holiday, independent day, this could mean that culture would not be disappeared. Furthermore, living in a community may help immigrant to reduce the rate of life pressure and stress such as culture shock and it is easier to overcome difficulties by mutual support.
In conclusion, settling in foreign countries confronts immigrants with many problems on culture. However, I believe that setting up a community is a good way to blend into with local culture
