Printed newspapers and magazines will no longer exist. Do you agree or disagree?
Indeed, information dispersal through paper based news and magazines is still prevalent and favoured by many. However, I believe such information carriers would be eventually replaced by advanced technologies, which require less energy and are more environmentally friendly.
At the present, the amount of natural resources consumed to produce paper products on which various contents are printed is taking a heavy toll on the environment. Not only the staggering decrease in the number of trees, which are main sources of paper products, is further promoting the global warming, but also the contaminating ways in which papers are manufactured are seriously deteriorating our environment. As seen above, products such as newspapers and magazines have few valid reasons to be continuously utilised in the near future.
Furthermore, paper based information carriers are no longer capable of delivering knowledge in various aspects in a timely manner. Instant information updates are often presented in electronic forms on the Internet, and it is impossible for paper products to compete with the Internet in this respect. Therefore, it is often the case that people refer to their electrical gadgets for current world affairs and latest fashion trends than to newspapers and magazines. In addition, technological advancements also allow people to enjoy the feelings of reading on a real paper. The recently released digital device named Kindle not only displays information in ways sharing full similarities with those on papers, but also has the ability to retrieve instant updates from the information grid through wireless. These advantages of such devices make them become competent candidates to replace paper products in the near future.
In conclusion, information businesses have always placed high value on fast, accurate and comprehensive means of knowledge exchange. Newspapers and magazines are no longer able to keep up with these standards, and are therefore incompatible with modern world settings. Thus, there is no reason for them to be prolonged in the foreseeable future.
