Hi all, this is my first post on this forum.
It would be very kind of you to look through my essay and point out the main problems about it. And maybe try to guess a possible band score? Thank you!
Increasing the price of petrol is the best way to solve growing traffic and pollution problems. To what extent do you agree or disagree? What other measures do you think might be effective?
For the past several decades the whole world has been very concerned about the increasing amount of pollution problems caused by growing traffic. One of the suggested solutions is to boost the price of petrol so that drivers think twice before choosing to go by car. It is important to note, however, that it would not solve the problem. This essay will present the arguments for this point of view as well as suggest other possible measures to take.
First of all, increasing the price of petrol might introduce even more problems. For example, if using a car placed a high financial burden on ordinary people, driving would be considered to be a luxury. This would inevitably widen the gap between the middle class and the rich. In addition, high prices of petrol would result in the increase of prices of many commodities. This is because their price depends a lot on transportation costs, which would obviously skyrocket if petrol was very expensive. Thus, the proposed solution to high pollution would cause more harm than good.
Fortunately, there are many other ways to solve the pollution problems due to increasing traffic. One of the most effective measures is to actively spread awareness of the impact that traditional cars have on the environment. The more people understand the underlying reasons for global warming induced by human activity, the more action they will take. This action might take the form of using public transportation more frequently or even buying an electric car. Therefore, spreading collective knowledge and awareness is the first step to take in order to limit pollution.
To sum up, radical solutions to global problems, such as increasing the price of petrol to control pollution levels, are not always effective. The most important thing to strive for is international awareness of environmental problems. This way, the human population will thrive rather than die out because of toxic air.
