In the modern world, everyone wants to be ahead of their peers, be it education or fashion. Today, more and more people are following the latest fashion trends. They are influenced by the social networking websites and fashion magazines. In my viewpoint, this is not good in the long run.
The major factor influencing the youngsters to keep in line with latest fashion is the social networking websites. With stars and celebrities updating their Facebook and twitter profiles multiple times a day with photos about their personal life and their styles, people tend to follow them and get influenced by them. For instance, when Salman Khan posted pictures of him wearing faded and torn out jeans on the instagram, it became a fashion statement for people all over India. Many people bought these jeans at high prices. Another factor is the introduction of dedicated fashion magazines such as Vogue, FashionPlus and other. More youngsters and even older people now subscribe to these magazines and tend to stay ahead of others in fashion news and trends.
To be inline with the latest clothes, involves a lot of money. This might not be a viable option for the majority of people who are working on minimum wages. They might end up spending most of their money on fashion, leaving aside almost nothing to save. It will also render their old clothes useless as they would be out of fashion and they would never prefer to wear them. Wearing new clothes gives them a sense of instant gratification, whereas wearing old ones doesn’t.
In conclusion, it would be difficult for most people to be in the latest trends as it comes with a cost.
