The line graph illustrates projections about how many students will learn English, Spanish, Mandarin, over a decade from 2020 to 2030. Overall, English will be the most popular language over the whole period while there will be considerable upward trends in all the three languages.

Regarding English, the figure will start at about 500 million which will be the highest number among the three languages in 2020. At this point, the number will be followed by a steady increase to just under 700 million in 2024. Despite the next two years will witness a significant decrease, the number will rise gradually in the last four years, peaking at 750 million in 2030.

As for Mandarin, the figure will grow sharply from just 100 million in 2020 to 350 million in 2026 which will level that of Spanish. From this point, Chinese will become the second most popular language, jumping to above 550 million at the end of the period. Regards to Spanish, the number of learners will grow remarkably in the first two years, going up from above 200 million in 2020 to just under 300 million in 2022. The figure will then rise steadily, finishing at approximately 500 million in 2030.
