The world we live in today gives more importance on one’s materialistic value rather than a person’s moral value. Unfortunately, I agree that qualities like trust, benevolence are often disguised. What are the reasons for this form of judgment? This essay makes an attempt to analyze the reasons for the materialistic approach of humans.
Firstly, money is most important factor that rules the world where all other genuine acts are overthrown. To be more precise mass media, which is regarded as the tool in providing information, tries to highlight dignitaries who have gained fame and fortune in their life more than those who performs a humanitarian act. For example, popular magazines like Daily Mirror, The telegraph focus articles more on celebrities like Kim Kadarshian and their life style and their shows. This way news that deals with charity or a courageous events like saving a person life from a detrimental situation is often pushed to the last page or in one corner of the magazine. Furthermore, readers who often buy these magazines are often found spending their time in admiring celebrities and reading more about their stories rather than taking their time in knowing how they can prove to be useful to another human being.
Secondly, off late it is seen that human characters like honor kindness is often taken as a tool in gaining popularity. To support this statement the seven-year “Tour de France” winner Lance Armstrong who was known for his victory despite battling against cancer, renowned for his donations and inspiration to young athletes revealed lately that he had been doping throughout the competition. This makes it clear that qualities like trust are used as a false weapon in gaining popularity.
Taking all the above into consideration, I personally believe it all depends on one’s perspective to decide whether one’s asset is more important than the moral value or vice versa.
