Some of the methods used in advertising are unethical and unacceptable in today’s society. To what extent do you agree with this view?
The methods of marketing the products have evolved with the passage of the time. Now, in the global world, several advance methods are used in advertising. However, it is observed that some of the methods used in advertising are unethical and unacceptable in today’s society. It is common observation that immoral and unethical advertisements have to be seen by viewers even if they do not have intention to watch them. This argument will be proven by looking at how individual is forced to view advertise in the most visited websites and how unacceptable actions are presented in the commercials.
Firstly, commercials in the most popular websites in the Internet restrict users to watch the advertisement before doing their own work. Take YouTube as an example, its auto play promos before the YouTube video, force viewers to watch the advertisements before viewer’s desired material. It causes irritation, when the advertisements is not related to content or advertise contains unethical material. After discussing the example, it is felt that advertisement should be related to topic on the Internet. Consequently, this argument is hard to refute.
Secondly, some advertisement show unacceptable ads in the mass media, which might impact negatively on the teenagers psychology. For instance, take the example of tobacco ads. It is projected that individual can do anything and one can get rid of his/her problems after using tobacco. These types of ads have negative impacts on the viewers, particularly on the teenagers. It is because, they thought that these products can resolve their personal issues as well as they can become smarter after using them. It is felt that companies should display the reality of the product rather than showing unacceptable material to the audience. Thus this argument is also hard to debunk.
After analyzing how advertisement in the frequently visited websites and unacceptable material presented in commercials are unacceptable and unethical for the today's society, it is felt that government should implement policy to bind advertisement agencies to show realistic commercials and make law for cyber world that force companies not to display unwanted ads to the users.
