Question; some people claim there are different ways of saving energy (electricity and gas) such as using energy for shorter periods of time in the workplace and not using electricity or gas for one day a week. Do you agree or disagree with this statement? give your opinion.

The technological advancement has made the life increasingly dependant on energy resources such as electricity and gas. The extravagant cost involved in electricity production and issues concerning global warming make the efficient use of energy as and urgent need. It is argued that use of electricity or gas for shorter period of time and not using for one day a week are an excellent solutions to save energy. This is proven by looking at merits of using the electricity only for essential period of the working day and reducing the work days of a week.

Firstly, the central heating systems deployed in most of the office buildings consume major portion of the electricity and the appropriate use of the installed radiators would catalyse the conservation of energy. For example, keeping the thermostat for controlling the temperature on only for 8 hours a day, from 9.00am to 5.00pm, instead of 24 hours a day, would save significant amount of gas and electricity. As this shows, the use of thermal system exclusively for working hours would make a huge difference to save energy. Thus, use of electricity to less hours is an amicable solution.

In addition to the above, a significant quantity of energy could be saved by avoiding one day of work. for instance, the companies which allow employees to work from home for one day a week pay less energy bills than those who work full week.
Such an arrangement would reduce the energy used for commuting to the workplace, traffic and pollution. Hence avoiding the energy usage for one day a week could save colossal amount of power.

Nevertheless, decline in number of working hours and days may influence the workers productivity. This would decrease companies profits.

To put it in a nutshell, using the energy sources for limited hours of the day and not utilising for one day in a week are indispensable methods of conservation of power. however the drawbacks are thought to be as the price that a company has to pay to preserve the energy. It is predicted that implementation of strict rule to prevent over usage of power by organisations over the globe would protect the world from energy crisis.
