Is Freedom of speech necessary for a free Society ?

Voltaire , during renaissance , laid the foundation of a free society by saying that I may not agree with what you say but I will defend till death your right to say. Freedom of speech is the emblem of contemporary age, without it there would have monarchy, dictatorship and repressive regimes. The Almighty has created man free and it’s the very right of every man to feel free and express his opinion without any restriction.
Since the inception of mankind , Human society have remained under some autocrat which ruled the masses by suppressing them and as a result the society as whole lost its very essence. Having a looking on pages of history , we will find that it is only the few free men who have crafted the shape of society by their free speech . Aristotle , Socrates and Galileo etc are the examples who were despite being suppressed by the ruling class professed their free speech. Today , the world only knows such people and respect them for providing world with their precious thoughts.
In this globalized world , the diversification is the key factor. People of different race , beliefs , culture and values are living together. It is the freedom of speech that provides a normative society where everyone is free to discuss and express his thoughts and others are ought to respect . It is the only pragmatic way where the individuals can live happily under the same umbrella.
For Governments , the more they suppress the public opinion the more there are chances for rebellion and anarchy. The Governments are mere representation of what the massive public opinion demands. The freedom of speech provides a collective wisdom for the society for the sustainable cohesive society.
To conclude, Freedom of speech is a must for a free society. No society can prosper without encouraging the free speech.
