The table compares the consumption and production of potatoes in five areas in 2006.

From the first table, it can be seen that the individual consumption in Europe was the highest-96.1 kg per person, almost doubled than that in North America-57.9 kg per person. The personal consumption of potatoes in Asia and South and Central America was 25.8 kg and 23.6 kg respectively, ranking the third and fourth. Africa was the region that consumed the least personal amount of potatoes, 14.1 kg.

The second table shows that differences among the production of five countries were significant. Asia abounded with potatoes and its production reached 131.2 million tonnes, slightly higher than that in Europe, 126.3 million. The production in North America, Africa, and South and Central America were 24.7million, 16.4 million, and 15.6 million tonnes correspondingly.

It can be concluded that the total production of potatoes in other three areas was less than that in either Europe or Asia. However, it still cannot be known that whether the national supply can meet the demand in each country in 2006 for lacking of the information related to population.
