It is felt that modern students are shutting their eyes to the moral values. They are becoming more and more materialistic. Should moral education be given to the school children ?
ANSWER :
Undeniably, the essence of modernity has spread its tentacles into all walks of life and all age groups. Modern students are often found devoid of moral values and have a very materialistic bent of mind. This lack of moral instincts can be attributed to numerous factors, but, concerning issue is whether moral education should be imparted to children at school level or not. Needless to say, it is thought provoking, and I accord with the idea to instill ethical values in school-goers as it is a mindful step.
Though learning is a never-ending process and that a person can learn whenever he wants but young and tender years are the most conducive ones, for a person never tends to forget or even skip, whatever he mastered in his childhood. Moreover, for an adult to be expected emanating moral standards, it becomes obligatory to teach him the same in his school years. Why the said proposition should come into practice has another big supporting argument, and that regards to availability of resources. A school, better known as a temple of learning, has the best natural learning environment where in educators play a very influential role. It is very convenient for them to sway their pupils with resources like plays, dramas and other such events highlighting the need and significance of morality. Moral philosophy can be a efficacious expedient in disguise of a scoring subject for the juniors.
However, there are few arguments that question the functionality of this proposition. It may be considered as an added academic burden by some children who are less gifted in academics and their parents might lament over it. It may be viewed as a performance ruiner in these times where a child's academic excellence is given more priority than his moral conduct by teachers and guardians. Apart from it, imparting moral education at school might be rendered a 'waste of time, energy and resources title by schools, for it would never ensure that whatever pupils learn at school, they definitely incorporate the some in their lines practically, which is in fact must to make efforts successful.
After having contemplated the intricacies of introducing moral education in the schools to be imparted to children , I am convinced that it is without any question in the benefit of both, the children as well as society. Only then can world have model dwellers . However, the course observed to impart , needs to be such, that it does not impede the much more valued academic prospects.
