Life now is better than it was 100 years ago
To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?

We are born in this age so it is difficult for us to imagine life 100 years ago. We can only yet relive those years with the help of the stories our grandparents told us or through books or through documentaries. Word life is hard to define as it is made of so many experiences, moods, lifestyles, civilizations and interests of people from time to time.

If we talk about life 100 years ago, it was simple. People had limited work options and opted for government jobs, they were not very ambitious (that does not mean that they were not hard working) and lived a stress free life. There was not much of social pressure and sources of entertainment were limited. In India, women were majorly confined to homes and it was a man’s duty to earn bread and butter for the family. Education wise also, the options were limited. Sources of knowledge were limited too. Families were united and bonded. People were concerned about each other and were helpful. People enjoyed learning various art forms.

Over the years everything changed, now people are different. Competition is at its peak bringing with it a lot of stress and social pressure to achieve things, to stay ahead of family and friends. With the advent of various technologies, our lives have become simpler in terms of using various machines, but we are more prone to diseases now. Medical facilities have improved so has illnesses. Our lifestyle is more sedentary now. Children spend most of their times at homes playing video games or using social media applications. Our world is becoming virtual and children are not able to develop their personalities. Our environment is at great risk because of increasing pollution, plantation of lesser number of trees and population is on all time high leading to creating an imbalance in society. Globalization is taking effect. Our definition of luxury has changed.

To conclude, no doubts our lives these days are much more luxurious and easier due to rise in technological advancements and we are more independent now than we used to be but somewhere our lives are more stressed and we are not at peace with ourselves. The positive part is that women have become more independent and move shoulder to shoulder with their male counterparts but on the flip side, they still need to manage their homes adding double responsibilities, the crime rate against women has increase. Children have more opportunities to study but it comes at a cost of high competition. Having said that, we are mid way in becoming highly balanced society.
