"Prevention is better than cure."
Out of a country's health budget, a large proportion should be diverted from treatment to
spending on health education and preventative measures.
To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?

Over the past century, the medical field has undergone a massive paradigm shift. This is due to magnanimous funding on sustained research particularly on epidemiology, pathophysiology and treatment. Despite these advancements, it is believed by other individuals that a large portion of the expenditure should be allocated on preventive campaigns. This essay greatly agrees with the statement and will provide basis why it is regarded as so.
Firstly, health care education equips individuals with the knowledge and attitude on various preventable diseases and how to prevent them. This could be attained by providing knowledge on different sectors of the nation. Take for example, The Center for Disease Control, the institution has launched hundreds of project regarding proper hand washing thorough media. The simple act of washing hands has been deemed as the most effective way to prevent diarrheal and respiratory diseases. Furthermore, It also deters the spread of microorganism to other individuals thus preventing the communicability of the disease. It is evident that these actions could lead to better health conditions.
Secondly, a good foundation on primary health care prevention entails early diagnosis and treatment. This could lead to less expensive therapy, good prognosis and better outcomes. Take for instance, The World Health Organization(WHO), the association has provided education on early detection of breast cancer through Breast Self Examination and early mammography. In addition, WHO has also launched awareness programs to women and well as provision of HPV vaccination to prevent cervical cancer. This could result to a reduction of morbidity and mortality rates on a global scale.
In conclusion, a solid foundation on health care awareness could prevent acquiring communicable and non-communicable diseases as well as promote early interventions. I believe that a higher amount of resources should be allotted to precautionary measures and education. In my opinion, an ounce of prevention will always be better that a pound of care.
