In many countries children are engaged in some kind of paid work. Some people regard this as completely wrong while others consider it as valuable work experience.
Discuss both points of view and give your opinion.
Currently, child labour is dominating in different countries especially developing ones. While some people believe child working brings them valuable experience, I think that it is alarming issue which is detrimental for children.
Many people hold the opinion that engaging children in paid works have serious impact on them. Firstly, all child workers show high risk to be exploited. For instance, street vendors face gangs or bully boys, who cause significant harms to them, and, as a result, children behaviors change badly, and they involve in juvenile delinquency in order to protect themselves or imitate other boys. Also, many work owners prefer to employ children as they have knowledge about their rights and do not demand high wages or salaries. Secondly, there are serious health issues threaten those children’s lives. To illustrate, in many poorer nations work is very demanding and children are obligated to carry large and heavy objects, while their body growth is still incomplete, which affects their bones and result in back pain, bone broken or other problems.
Nevertheless, the opponents argue that children obtain worthwhile experience during work as they learn many skills and acquire large knowledge. To illustrate, children work as sellers improve their numeracy and communication skills because they practice them with various individuals and on different circumstances. Children practice crafts such as, carpentry, furniture making, sewing…etc. acquire new knowledge in these fields. As a consequence, working develop children abilities and strengthen their personalities and self-confidence, which is important benefit of their work experience.
To conclude, child labour has more negatives than positives. If governments do not adopt strategies or introduce legislations to combat this type of labour, the negative impacts on children and societies will increase dramatically.
