Millions of people every year move to English-speaking countries such as Australia, Britain or America, in order to study at school, college or university.
Why do so many people want to study in English?
Why is English such an important international language?
Nowadays, thousands of students travel to other countries to continue their educations. They mostly choose countries whom English is the first language as their ultimate destinations. Each year United Kingdom and United states welcome the increasing number of pupils to their universities and colleges. It is believed that in majority of cases it is due to the fact that English is a worldwide spoken language and approximately all the references are written in English.
It is suggested that English is the language of science and Scientists could communicate through it because it has been chosen as the most convenient language for transferring knowledge according to Royal academy of science. Furthermore, most of the references and text books are written in English and a researcher should know English to read other resources and write essays to receive feedback and citations. That’s why most of the students apply to study in English for their graduate studies.
According to Wikipedia, English is the first language in the world based on the number of speakers and nearly 1.5 billion people speak English as their native or second language. Therefore, one could connect through a greater number of people by speaking English. Also the process of learning is far easier since the grammar and the vocabulary of this language is not as hard as other languages such as Arabic or French.
Countries need to choose a specific language in their foreign affairs. Since UK and USA are two of the most powerful and effective countries in international politics and economics, this language was once chosen for foreign agreements and speech. As a way of illustration, the chair of United Nation speaks in English in general assemblies, however translating systems are provided for those who are not able to speak and comprehend English fluently.
To conclude, I am of the conception that English language has played an important role throughout the history, and in near future more speakers will talk in this language to keep up with the fast growing pace of science and technology.
