The bar chart compares the duration of phone calls made by three categories namely, local calls by fixed line, national and international calls by fixed line and mobile calls in UK over 7 year period. Overall, local fixed line calls remained as the most popular type of call throughout the period, whereas mobile calls experienced a substantial growth.
As its shown, local calls made by fixed line dominated the call duration at slightly over 70 billion minutes in 1995. The minutes then continued to climb gradually to its peak at 90 billion minutes in 1999 before it fell down considerably to approximately 72 billions minutes in the final year.
In contrast, mobile calls was the least preferred mode of communication in the 20th century. This can be proven when there was less than 10 billion minutes of mobile calls made in 1995. Despite its low popularity, there was a significant rise in mobile calls at a little below 40 billion minutes in 2001 . It was subsequently followed by a further increase to over 40 billion minutes in 2002. Likewise, the trend for national and international calls by fixed line showed an upward pattern where it increased from below 40 billion minutes in 1995 to over 60 billion minutes in 2002.
